OUR PRACTICE

Weakness, stiffness, swelling, and pain due to joint and soft tissue insufficiency is effectively treated in our clinic with a variety of methods. The overall goal being to restore alignment, strength, and longevity of the tissues involved.

Treatments are determined after a diagnosis is obtained.  The program desinged is unique for each individual. The treatments range from conservative to interventional and from traditional to innovative.

PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION

Physical medicine and rehabilitation deals with functional restoration of a person affected by physical disability. Training in this field involves four years of medical school, one year of internship and three years of residency. Physiatrists specialize in restoring optimal function to people with injuries to the muscles, bones, soft tissues, and nervous system.  Common conditions treated include acute and chronic pain and pain synromes, sports injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation and conditions such as low back pain, fibromyalgia and traumatic brain injury.

The goal is to enable the person to function optimally and the emphasis is the optimization of the quality of life for our patients. The two main journals of the PM&R field are Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Both journals are published monthly.  

Who We Are

John W. Chang, M.D.

Dr. Chang received his M.D. degree from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. He completed his internship training in internal medicine at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco, California.  He completed physical medicine and rehabilitation residency training at UCLA, a fully accredited program offering three years of training in physical medicine and rehabilitation. A wide-spectrum of experience was gained through the following institutions: UCLA Medical Center, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, VA Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center.  Cedars Sinai Medical Center is world-renowned hospital providing inpatient musculoskeletal, neurological, orthopedic, and medical rehabilitation.  Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is the only rehabilitation center in California ranked top 10 in America by US News.  It is known for its spinal cord injury, adult brain injury, and pediatric rehab services.  UCLA Medical Center and Community Centers offer training through the Sport Medicine Clinic/Team Physician, Spine Clinic, Spine Block/Injection Clinic, Cerebral Palsy Center, Neuromuscular Clinic, Pediatric Amputee Center, Occupational Medicine Center.  Multidisciplinary Pain clinic, Amputee Clinic, Shoe and Brace Clinic/Wheelchair Clinic, Cardiac Rehab/ETT clinic, Neurolysis Clinic, Electrodiagnosis Clinic, and Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Services.  He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
